Toyota Warranties - How to Avoid a Void!
Will aftermarket parts void a warranty?
Driving away from the dealership in your brand-new Toyota and want to add your touches to your asset without voiding your Toyota Warranty Advantage? Keep that Toyota feeling and personalise your Toyota without a costly warranty void. Aftermarket parts MAY affect your warranty, or part thereof, and your Toyota vehicle and the parts you consider play a role in this. Aftermarket can refer to replacement parts or accessories that do not interfere with your vehicle's optimum performance.
Does changing your oil void your Toyota warranty?
Your Toyota warranty is valid if your car is maintained and serviced per the vehicle Warranty and Service book. Checking your oil is recommended as part of a weekly maintenance regime to ensure optimum vehicle performance. If you follow your service and maintenance guide in your Warranty and Service book, a qualified and authorised Toyota Technician will change your oil while you sit back and relax. Oil changes are an integral part of maintaining your warranty and are included in our capped price services. Using quality products, proving the oil and filter were changed, and that they were completed to the standard expected to maintain your warranty, is where concerns may arise. Simply changing your oil will not void your warranty, but failing to complete an oil change to the required standard or the failure of genuine Toyota parts that can be traced back to an oil change conducted by a non-Toyota repairer (you), may void those parts.
Do aftermarket wheels void a Toyota warranty?
Often the temptation is to purchase and fit wheels and rims that are taller, wider and heavier, and that require a lower-profile tyre than the factory-fitted originals. This type of change is considered a modification and could quickly degrade any vehicle components, including steering and suspension, possibly even engine mounts on some vehicles. This could cause genuine Toyota parts to fail, which will void your warranty on those items. If you have any concerns, we are here to assist and will happily answer your questions to ensure you maintain the integrity of your warranty.
Will an intake and exhaust void your Toyota Warranty?
Most of the time, adding an aftermarket exhaust system will not void your warranty – as long as it doesn't cause damage or stress that leads to failure in any other parts of your vehicle. If a failure occurs in an engine component that can be traced back to the installation, or the part fails or causes failure to other parts of the engine, then your warranty on those parts will be void.
As noted in our Toyota Warranty Advantage Terms and Conditions, ‘failure or defect arising in any Toyota vehicle, Genuine Part or Accessory caused by fitment of a non-Toyota Genuine Part/Accessory or faulty workmanship by a non-authorised Toyota service technician is not covered by this warranty.’
Does lift work void your Toyota warranty?
Lift work on your Toyota vehicle can involve the addition of simple spacers or replacing the whole shock system. You may be contemplating lift work for several reasons – one of the more popular reasons is for 4WD adventures on rugged terrain. Off-road use, where the vehicle was not originally designed for that purpose, can void portions of your warranty if damage or failure occurs. Lift work alone will not void your warranty; however, any failure or damage caused by improper installation or failure of non-genuine Toyota parts or work by a non-Toyota authorised repairer will not be covered by your warranty.
