You've decided to purchase a Toyota HiLux, Australia’s #1 selling vehicle, and you want to know which, of the 5 models will best suit your work /  lifestyle requirements not to mention your back pocket.

SO WHAT’S STANDARD ACROSS HILUX

There are 5 variants of the ever-popular work / play vehicle. Workmate, SR, SR5, Rogue, Rugged X. All HiLux models come with a plethora of outstanding safety, security and connectivity features.

SAFETY - Toyota’s Safety Sense as standard. So what does that mean? Toyota Safety Sense includes lane departure alert, pre-collision safety system (with pedestrian and cyclist detection), road sign assist, active cruise control. All HiLuxs’ also have 7 airbags and a 5-star 2019 ANCAP safety rating. Plus each variant has a full range of security features including an alarm and power door locks.

MULITMEDIA - The full range boosts enhanced connectivity too, with 8” colour touchscreen display, Apple CarPlay / Android Auto, USBs and bluetooth.  The number of speakers increases from 2 with the single cab Workmate, to 9 with Rogue and Rugged X (which also boost the premium JBL Soundsystem, but more about the two high end HiLux’s later).

POWER + TOWING - One of the main draw cards for HiLUx is its versatility, work vehicle in the week, play vehicle at the weekend. Therefore, power and towing are important when you think about pulling your boat, jetski or van. The GVM (3050), GCM (5850) and towing capacity (3500) are aligned across the range too.

AUTO / MANUAL + WHEELBASE + CAB SIZES - Each HiLux has a 3085 wheelbase, 80l fuel tank, power steering and the telescopic steering column; And All variants have a 4X4 and an automatic option (Workmate, SR and SR5 also offer 4X2 and manual choices). Rogue and Rugged X only offer 4X4 automatic, and all models are at least 2.4l turbo diesel, except for Workmate, which offers a 2.7l petrol variant too. There’s a selection of cabs sizes (single, double and extra) across Workmate, SR and SR5, Rogue and Rugged X are double cab only. So, depending on the size of your tribe, you can select the right size cab to meet your lifestyle needs.

THE DIFFERENCES - With HiLux, every model offers a heap of value. power and capability. There’s a class leading safety, power and connectivity across them all. However, as the price point increases the HiLux evolves both inside and out. The capable, trustworthy, work ute evolves into a luxurious ride and off-road play vehicle.

THE NITTY GRITTY - Let’s get down to the nitty gritty details and features that define the variants.

SR - The SR variant offers more grunt, more class and more comfort than the Workmate. Standard fabric seats become premium, there’s front air-conditioned cooler box, bucket seats in both of the front seats and side steps for improved access

SR5 - The SR5 is further step towards a more luxurious ride, catering for the kids in the back too. It’s packed full of advanced technology, and design features. The exterior has LED additions, chrome step type rear bumper, tow bar and a stainless-steel sports bar. Inside the cab the upgrades continue, the SR5 features front dual zone climate control air-conditioning, privacy glass, premium gear knob and steering wheel, rear cup holders and rear vents. There’s more tech too, a parking sensor, smart entry and exit system and satellite navigation and DAB+ digital radio.

ROGUE - The premium Rogue adds an upgraded interior and 18" Rogue alloys to the mix. Outdoor adventuring upgrades like marine grade carpet tub liner, motorised roller cover with anti-jam and remote lock, trailer wiring harness (7-pin flat) and tow ball and tongue make Rogue a good choice for any a keen 4-wheel driver. The Rogue looks tough on the outside and there’s a heap of lux extras on the inside too. Think leather accented interior, heated front seats and an 8-way power adjustable driver’s seat, 9 speakers and the premium JBL Soundsystem.

RUGGED X - And then there’s Rugged X. The best of the best. Built to dominate on road and off, the Rugged X is loaded with specialty features like a hoopless steel front bullbar, and bash plate, so you can tackle extremes. Coming in a wide range of colours, Rugged looks different, boasting a black functional sports bar with recreational attachment points, rock rails, body side mouldings, LED light bar, recovery points (front and rear), tub tray with tailgate protection, a snorkel and spread beam driving lights. It has all the best features of Rogue but more 4WD customisation too.
