Whilst Toyota Hybrid Synergy Drive has always been ground-breaking technology, there's nothing complicated about owning a Toyota Hybrid. You can just get in, hit the start button and leave the car to do the rest.
Behind the scenes, there is the high torque of a battery-powered electric motor combined with the efficient power of a petrol-driven combustion engine which kicks in for hard acceleration or high speeds.
This said, it is one of the more misunderstood cars in our range so we thought we would bust some of the common misconceptions!
Do I have to plug a Toyota Hybrid in?
No, the actions of driving, braking and slowing down all recharge the Hybrid battery, so you will never have to drive around looking for a mains supply to plug in to.
How many batteries are there in a Toyota Hybrid?
Two. A high voltage hybrid 'traction' battery and a 12volt battery for auxiliary functions.
Can a Hybrid run on electricity if I run out of fuel?
No, it is not designed to run without petrol.
Will a Hybrid battery run out of charge?
A Toyota hybrid battery will never run out of charge because it continuously charges whilst you drive. However, if you do not drive for a couple of months and your 12volt battery goes flat, your Hybrid will not run.
How often do Toyota Hybrid batteries need replacing?
They come with a long life and an 8-year or 160,000km warranty, whichever comes first.
Can they be replaced or recycled?
Yes. Ken Mills Toyota can replace Toyota hybrid batteries and advise of the cost. As we are also authorised to recycle hybrid batteries appropriately, we can pass on a discount to those guests who need to buy a replacement.
Does it cost more to service a Hybrid?
No, it costs about the same to service a hybrid as a conventional Toyota.
